Will there be more Princess Planet?
No. But if you enjoyed the series, I’ve made a 12 page pdf, called The Danger of the Dinosorcerer, with a self-contained adventure for Princess Christi and Princess Boo. It’s as pay-what-you-want download (minimum $1 Canadian) of all new material. So, if you want to use it as a tip jar, and give me some money in exchange for the enjoyment you’ve received from the strip, that would be much appreciated. If you just want to buy it to get 72 new panels of Princess Planet, that’s cool too. If you don’t want to pay anything, you’re not missing out on an integral story line or anything.

What else did you do?

THANK YOU!

I want to thank all of the readers who have been involved in making this a fun experience. I really enjoyed the banter we got going. I enjoyed seeing you riddle out the extra gags. I think there was only one troll in the run of the strip. So I want to thank all the commenters, especially those who got into the double digits: Ribuprissin, RavenBlack, ColdFusion, Golux, mdf, Lars, Hoppy, Reynard61, Nonsensicles, Lightbulb, Scarodactyl, Proteus, Alice Quinn, Anonymous, Bok, Anton Sherwood, Blue Night, Daniel, Dante Wynter, Varkarrus, USB, Sam, Kim, The Blonde One, das, littebeast, sirbacon, Emma, Toner, DSil, Aeonsama, Tamfang, Jai, KNO3, Mary Tee, Philosopher Zurg, CatzCradle, and Fat Sweaty. And thanks to everyone who drew Fan Art for the strip: Lars, Daniel, Hambot, and Kathleen! Big up to the people who covered the strip, El Santo at Webcomics Overlook, Alice Quinn at TDot Comics, Hansel Moreno at ReadComicBooks and Jenn at The Dragon podcast. Thank you to the readers who came back to read the strip but didn’t feel the need to comment; the silent majority is much appreciated. A HUGE thank you to everyone who referred a friend and recommended someone else check out the strip. I want to thank my friends and peers for supporting me with encouragement, and guest strips, especially Steven Charles Manale who put up with me calling him for help with punchlines a lot. All the Transmission-X crew. And of course to my amazing wife, who helps me figure out what is funny and what is not. You are all awesome wizaardvark warbarian typhoonicorns!

Weird Signage

So, the other day I was passing a lunch shop and noticed something on their sign that perplexed me.

sealeg.jpg

What is a Hot Sea Leg Sandwich? Is this like a Club or a Rueben or something that everyone knows about but I’ve just missed it somehow? Is it crab’s legs? Surf and turf? Pirate peg leg on a panini?

While I’m on the topic, I might as well share a few more of my favourite signs I’ve found around town. This convenience store also has a sign proclaiming Coffee Sandwich. Mmmm.

ojjjs.jpg

This store sets you up for low expectations and then is pleasantly surprising. It’s really 1.5 Stars at least.

onestar.jpg

This place is closed now, but the guy who was working outside the shop couldn’t tell me what this critter was suppoesd to be. He just tittered with awkward laughter and said “It’s not what you think…”

More Dollar Bin Finds

People seemed to enjoy my most recent dollar bin finds, so I’m going to post a few more I’ve collected over the last few years…

batman.jpg

The cover was missing off of this one, but Batman and Robin in medieval times vs a Giant? How woudl I go wrong?

power-man.jpg

They made this one into a movie starring Martin Lawrence I think.

video-game.jpg

Yup, it’s a video game clearly drawn by someone who’s never played a video game before. What are with the light globes on the sides? Charles Nelson Reiley’s makeup mirror? Also, how bad a video game is it when your joystick only allows left and right movement?

conan-46.jpg

And Conan was also into cashing in on a fad. Here he fights a creature made of disco balls!

redsonja.jpg

Red Sonja vs three entombed vampires is pretty cool but the addition of their controller, a man with a mask of deadly pink flowers, really sells it! (actually it was pretty creepy in the story).

man-thing.jpg

Yes, I have a Giant-Sized Man Thing! Also: barbarians! awesome.

manotaur.jpg

And how could I not love this one? The Manotaur? Sounds like something Princess Christi should have as a pet, doesn’t it? It’s like a centaur but with bull parts.

Skadi

I just discovered a new webcomic group, Dumm Comics that has lots of lovely art. My favourite is Skadi by Katie Rice and Luke Cormican. It’s about a kick butt barbarian lady that lives to eat lots of monsters.

Dogwyn

A couple weeks ago I was watching Celebrity Family Feud and I realized that TX friend-of-the-family, Darwyn Cooke bears a striking resemblance to Dog, The Bounty Hunter. If he doesn’t get dressed up for San Diego or Halloween, he’s missing a golden opportunity.

Dollar Bin Finds

This weekend was the Paradise Toronto Comicon. There’s a post about on the main page but I’m also going to share with you some extra fun. Part of my con experience is always going through the dollar bins and finding hilarious comics (or at least covers). Here are a few of my recent prizes.

batman2.jpg

I wonder if this ties in at all to Batman and Robin’s Twinkie trouble?

unexpected.jpg

Ray Fawkes asked me to keep an eye out for horror comics. I grabbed two Unexpecteds and gave him a choice between the two. He’s now the proud owner of one featuring a little boy being welcomed to a summer camp with 3 skeletal boys in orange swim trunks. I guess the skeleton was their gimmick.

invaders.jpg

I think “meets” might be a little optimistic.

kamandi.jpg

Best Kamandi cover ever.

lady-cop1.jpg

Fighting crime in a mini skirt is the only thing that keeps her sane in a world gone mad!

brute-force.jpg

And I think this was the find of the con. How could a cyborg animal team out to help the environment not have been bigger than the Transformers and Garfield combined?

Free Comic Book Day 2008

Even the rain couldn’t stop a plethora of kids and parents coming out to Saturday’s Free Comic Book Day. The Beguiling organized an all ages arena at the Palmerston Library. Jeremy Tankard, Michael Cho, Steve Manale and I all had a great time doing drawings for kids. Amongst a huge stack of other drawings I must have done 5 mermaids, 3 unicorns, 5 dragons and 2 thugs from Grand Theft Auto (although I refused to draw them with guns, they were going to fight with trash can lids, old school style!).

Jeremy did a reading from his books and an art lesson and Steve and I taught the kids how to make funny comics and a couple fun drawing games.

Here is Steve turning a blob I drew into a brand new character, Skele-mom.

fcbd-1.jpg

There was a steady stream of kids in and out, and a decent sized crowd stuck around for each time we did our presentation.

I hope your FCBD was as much fun as ours!

Toronto ComiCon this weekend April 12-13

Along with several of the other Transmission-X guys (Mike, Ramon, Cameron, Andy and Karl) I will be at the Toronto ComiCon this weekend. I’ve got a few prints to sell which I’ll hopefully be making available for sale online as well. I’ve done some new Princess Planet prints that are made with the concept of “What if there was a side-scrolling video game with tPP characters?”  So if you’re in the neighbourhood pop by. On Sunday it’s $10 to get in but you get a voucher for $10 to use at any retailer in the con. So it’s basically free. You’ll find it at the Toronto Convention Centre in the south building, click the link for more details.

Awesome Lego

Lego is the best toy. If I leave Lego lying around people automatically want to play with it, take it apart and make something new. The only thing guests do with action figures on the shelf is to put them in humping positions.

I’ve been looking around the web at other people who build stuff out of Legos (I know the plural of Lego is Lego, but Legos is more fun). For those of you who’ve only been reintroduced to Lego with my last few Princess Planet strips, I’m going to post a few amazing Lego links so you can rekindle your love of the brick…

The Brother Brick is a fantastic blog that picks up on the best of the best on the net. Like this scene from Dune.

Or this tall rocky home

Or this

Rocko has a great collection of fun and inventive pieces like throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

MOC is a place for people to upload their own Lego creations.

BrickQuest is a ruleset for playing a game a cross between Diablo and a board game but made out of Lego.

Happy Legoing!

Transmissionsaurus X

The Princess Planet is proud to be on the schedule for the Torontomission X site. The strip’s been around in various places over the last 3 years or so, on the web and in print and is happy to find another sandbox to make castles in.
