Shadows of Dooooom! – part 8
Who was at the shopping mall anyway? The Shopping Centaur of course!
I learned what drag meant early. My grade 2 drama teacher asked me what I was going to be for Halloween and I told her Gene Simmons. She thought I meant Jean Simmons and said “You’re going in DRAG, that’s brave of you.” After some further explination I understood what DRessed As Girl was and she understood the true meaning of rock and roll.
When I was trying to come up with how to beat shadows I went back to an old video game for the Commodore 64 that I loved as a child. Tangled Tales was one of the best problem solving adventure games I ever played. It had a knight Sir Issac Newton, a thief Goldilocks and a crazy little dude who would only join you if you told him you were Daxam, your elder at the wizard school, and would teach him how to make people’s hair fall out. To get past the room where a shadow kept knocking me out of it, I realized I had to douse my torch and walk through the darkness to the next room and close the door behind me. Fun! And logical! It didn’t work like that in Dungeons and Dragons where darkness just meant they could sneak up on you even better. Not as fun to learn.

Tangled Tales — loved that game, still own it (somewhere), but never managed to beat it.
And there were all the other great characters like the female elf Shakespeare-quoting bard.

LOVE LOVE LOVE it!
But where is the light coming from that all the people have such distinct shadows? Hmmmmm….
*suspenseful music*

Meaner than junkyard smog…
Must have been that Mazda RX-7 with the busted apex seal and blown side seals I watched get fired up to move it from one side of the lot to the other. The clouds of smoke were so dense it nearly caused an accident when it blew across the nearby 4-lane freeway.

MDF – I’ve forgotten so much of the game. I should replay it again some day!
TPG – fire elementals! Gah!
Golux – Mazda RX-7? Isn’t that a droid? Did the jawas still buy it from you?

Brian: The big question is whether the things are actually shadows or just monsters made of darkness. Shadows need a source of light cast them, but monsters made of darkness don’t. Speaking of which, would the evil mage who created these be casting a shadow?
