Epic Sail – part 19
I’m reminded of that old riddle: What can you add to a barrel of rainwater to make it weigh less? Holes. Do you guys have favourite riddles?

My favorite riddle is the one about a stick being sticky.

a person is travelling to visit their friend in truthsville when they come to a fork in the road. There is no sign post and never having been there before you don’t know which way to go. An old man is sitting by the way side. When you ask him where they lead he replies that one goes to truthsville (where everyone always tells the truth), the other to liarsberg (where everyone always lies), where do you want to go? With only asking one question how can you find out which way goes where? You don’t know if the old man is from truthsville or liarsberg so you dont know if what he tells you will be a lie or the truth. Side note that fits in somewhere: (1) no you can’t “beat the guy until he gives up the answer” or anything
Answer: take me/point the way to your village. if he’s from liarsberg he’ll point you to truthsville and if he’s from truthsville he’ll point to his village!

My favorite of course, is thanks to Tolkien.
“This thing, all things devours:
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers.
Gnaws iron, bites steel,
Grinds hard stones to meal.
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountains down.”
The answer is time, which Bilbo guessed on accident when he could not think of an answer by the point Gollum began badgering him for an answer.

Personally, my answer to the knights and knaves puzzle is: What is 1+1. Ok, now which door leads to safety? much less risk of confusing them or something.
