Call off the Wedding
So I have some big news for you all. In a few weeks, I’ll be putting Princess Planet on indefinite hiatus. I’ve been doing this strip since the fall of 2004, and I’ve decided it’s time to shift projects.
I’ve asked some of my cartoonist friends to help me send off the strip with some guest strips, which will start running next Sunday. There’ll be a new one every couple of days or so, and then I’ve got a few more of my own comics to close out the strip.
I’ll do a bigger post about this when the strip is officially over, but I wanted to give you the heads up as to why you’re seeing some different cartoonists.
They say the tragedies end in everyone dying and comedies end with everyone getting married. Well messing with tropes is what I do, so I’m blatantly avoiding a wedding. Â Also, men come with dowries on Princess Planet.

Thanks for making the comic all those years. I really enjoyed it. Pity it’s over now, but I’m sure your next project will be great fun as well.

Princess Planet has brightened my Sundays for the last (almost) nine years.
That’s a long time in Internet years particularly.
While I’m sad about the hiatus, there’s no point to continuing something that no longer gives you pleasure — the quality would undoubtedly suffer.
And, seeing as the planet is entirely Princesses, they deserve the best send off possible!
Will you also be telling us of your new projects — Princess Planet was also my first introduction to your work, and I’d like to see what comes next.

Thank you for providing one of the best.
Visiting the Princess Planet has always been a highlight of the day.

it had a good run.
it’s too bad we don’t have infinite time and energy to just do all the projects we’re capable of.

Oh noooooooo! This was the best Sunday strip ever.
Well, good luck on your new projects. Are you going to be doing a print book by any chance? On kickstarter or something?

Wow, this is the worst news I’ve heard today (and that’s including news that my school-critical netbook disappeared overnight). I’ve loved this comic ever since my brother showed it to me a couple of years ago, and getting a (very) indirect cameo was an enormous pleasure. Nowhere before have I seen such a fantastic combination of whimsy, punning and portmanteaus, and I doubt I’m likely to again. I hope very much that there will be a print version when all is said and done.
That said, with a talent like Brian’s it will be very exciting to see what comes next.

Aw, shucks!
I’m very sad to see The Princess Planet ending soon.
This is truly a rare gem on the internet so I’m sorry to see it go.
Good luck with your next project!

Thanks for doing TPP all these years! I’ve enjoyed the jokes! Looking forward to the finale, though I will miss the continuing strip.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone! I’ll be answering those questions and more after the last strip!

Pity to see the strip end. It certainly had a good run. Or, as the case may be, a good pun. If you haven’t already, when you start your next project it will have a lot of followers to start with.
