Attractive Opposites
One time I tried to watch Lost In Space. The first three panels of this comic represent my only experience with that show. Robbie the Robot and the kid found an identical imprisoned Robbie in a cave and it had this exact hole-filled logic. I just flipped channels right away, it was so stupid. Luckily, years later, I am able to turn my frustration into joy!
It was tough deciding on what the opposite of a human was. At first I was going for all the obvious targets… lawyers, politicians, lobbyists, the super rich, celebrities, people who text while you’re in the middle of a conversation with them, people who don’t stand right/walk left on escalators… boring. Then I considerd picking an arbitrary thing like a typewriter with a paintbrush stapled to it but namuh suited my taste for word play better. Not that I don’t love absurdity. Disco fish bongo kettle!

I’ve always had trouble with the “perfect opposites” idea. It’s like trying to make a perfect analogy; it’s easy to come up with one that makes a certain amount of sense… but you just can’t make it perfect. You can’t extend the logic far enough.
Also, in the third panel: “would” = “world” and “room” = “roam”. I think.

“people who don’t stand right/walk left on escalators”… the Dutch?

Ha. Do the dutch stand left/walk right? I’ve never been to Dutch Pennsylvania let alone the Netherlands. As long as they’re consistant they get the thumbs up. I just don’t like people who stand 2 abreast on busy subway escalators. That’s rude.

So if I’m breathing, my opposite would not be?

When we were little my sister and I used to try to change all the words of certain songs to their “opposites”. I remember being frustrated that it turned nonsensical and arbitrary so fast.

The pennsylvania dutch are absolutely useless on escalators. Don’t know why.

The Dutch have such tall narrow buildings, why would they have trouble with heights?

honestly, I think that even the concept of an antonym is highly situational. Few words have a perfect antonym, most of them range from shoehorned ones to ones that are only partially reversed.
