Maybe it goes back to how often Elephants are used in children’s books. I think of GIraffe and Elephants as typical animals, depsite not living in Africa. If my kid’s book had said E was for Ermine instead, maybe I’d be making Ermine jokes? Or maybe its because they’re huge but gentle, like a brontosaurus? At least I’m not going with the comedy staples of monkies and cows. For some reason they’re already funny.
